ACNC moves to cut reporting burden

The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) have said that charities will not have to duplicate financial reporting to the states and territories in the 2014 reporting period.

They will be able to electronically submit to the ACNC the same financial reports they provide to the states and territories.

ACNC Commissioner Susan Pascoe said recently that the change means that medium and large charities will not have to spend extra time and money filing annual financial reports to the ACNC.

She said, “This announcement is just one of many red tape reduction initiatives we are undertaking”.

The ACNC has also released a report which lists recommendations made at the Red Tape Reduction Forum held in December 2013.

The full report can be viewed at: Measuring and Reducing Red Tape in the Not-For-Profit Sector.

Charities that still need to complete their 2013 Annual Information Statement can log onto the ACNC Charity Portal at charity.acnc.gov.au, using their Australian Business Number as their username and the password that the ACNC sent in early December 2013.

Charities needing help and support can contact the ACNC by calling 13 ACNC (13 22 62) or emailing advice@acnc.gov.au.

Meanwhile, the Federal government aims to repeal the ACNC this week. If this affects your organisation, please keep a watching a brief.
